Middle Leaders have a pivotal role in making a difference to student outcomes. The Queensland Education Leadership Institute (QELi) has partnered with one the world’s leading authorities on educational leadership - the prestigious National College for School Leadership (NCSL) in the UK, to deliver a customised middle leadership program. (The program has been developed specifically for middle leaders in DET schools in Queensland and will be delivered by qualified and experienced facilitators from Australia and supported by the College on-line platform.

The program is focussed on building the leadership capability of middle leaders (Heads of Department, Heads of Curriculum, Year Level Coordinator's or equivalent) engaged in the pilot school phase of the Flying Start Project.

What is the MLDP About?

The Middle Leadership Development Program is about improving your own leadership in your school context through a series of modules focussing on:

  •          Leading and managing the organisation
  •          Leading and context
  •          Leading teaching and learning
  •          Leading people and effective teams
  •          Leading change and continuous improvement
  •          Developing personal effectiveness

You will focus on a school based project to improve student learning within your context, and help support the challenges involved in the Flying Start Initiative Project.

(The program is also aligned to the National Professional Standard for Principals).

You will be provided with opportunities to learn with your colleagues not only in your own school but from other schools within the pilot, so that you can draw on a wider range of expertise and support in your leadership.  The program is supported by high-quality resources including, guidance rom credible peers, on line learning coaching and in-school support.

The Emerging Principals Program is an intensive 6-12 month program that will enhance strategic leadership capability to ensure participants are ready to take up Principal roles.

The program is practical while research-based, drawing on the latest available evidence about effective learning and teaching in schools and school leadership.

During the Emerging Principals Program, learning is supported and consolidated through powerful online collegial tutorials and one-to-one coaching/mentoring, helping to build mutually-supportive, reflective and professional collegial groups.  Using a 'blended learning' approach, these processes are enhanced through face-to-face interactions, field visits, experiential and problem-based learning, case studies and action research.  This allows programs to be designed and delivered in a flexible way, catering to the needs and priorities of individual participants.
